2. Budget cuts forced Barb Cey’s position as Instruction Services Coordinator to become
a part time contracted services position which runs for 64 day this school year. Her
job will primarily consist of managing current Differentiated Education Plans (DEPs), assessing new students, and planning
for next year’s DEPs.
3. We still have Gifted and Talented
(G&T) policies and procedures in place that should help things run smoothly and consistently in her absences from the
district.
4. Any parent, student or teacher
can initiate a DEP. Parents should start with the teacher, then the building
principal, if necessary.
5. Important Goals for this school
year: monitor the current DEPs, assess new students, plan for next year, meet
with parents, teacher, administrators for feedback.
6. Barb will not be teaching any
students this year and has cut back on teacher in service and training.
7. How can we keep Barb’s
position at least at the same level for the next year and possibly increase her time in the district: Keep administrators (principals, Terry Walters, Sam Sinicropi) informed
of problems due to her non-availability and of positive aspects of her involvement in your child’s education. Always keep communications positive with administrators.
8. Barb will be meeting with groups
of parent this year, instead of individual DEP meetings with established students due to time constraints.
9. Cheryl White
from WCAGE is planning meetings (possibly at the WISD) with a variety of speakers on topics relating to gifted children. As soon as we have that information, we will send it out.
10. Our next meeting will be Thursday,
October 28 in the Heritage Media Center
at 7:00pm. We will be discussing what
to do if you have a concern while Barb is out of the district from December through March.
11. We also have meetings scheduled
for Wednesday, March 16 and Thursday, April 28 in the heritage Media Center
at 7pm. These will be more focused
on plans for next year.
